Heroes of the UAE is a national campaign focusing on energy and water conservation across all sectors of society. The campaign was launched to help address the country’s Ecological Footprint through its four programmes: Energy, Water, School and Corporate.

The Heroes of the UAE website allows visitors to pledge to reduce their water and electricity consumption, as well as access information to help them reach that pledge.

Objectives

  • Raise awareness of why and how to conserve energy and water as a way of reducing the UAE’s Ecological Footprint and help tackle climate change

  • Contribute to reduction of demand for energy and water across all sectors of society: individuals, households, corporations, government and schools

Corporate Programme inspires companies to be proactive in reducing their energy and water consumption as the private sector is accountable for 30% of the country’s Ecological Footprint. Through its carbon audits and retrofits, downloadable business toolkit and Corporate Hero pledge programme, businesses can learn easy-to-adopt tactics to help them achieve a lower carbon footprint and a better bottomline!
Energy Programme motivates individuals to act today to reduce their energy consumption. Encompassing a multi-tiered nationwide advertising and PR programme, supported by direct outreach activities, the campaign has been successful in raising awareness. To inspire and help the public in its quest, the Energy programme developed a calculator to assess your own carbon emissions and has distributed thousands of energy efficient light bulbs to the general public.
School Programme is designed to educate and engage school children to be part of the solution, through a competition and quiz as well as make a pledge to save the environment.
Water Programme addresses the UAE’s per capita water consumption, which is three times the global average. Energy and water are inextricably linked, due to the country’s dependence on desalinated water, which consumes fossil-fuel based energy, releasing carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. This section of the campaign offers a number of ways to save water.
