Protecting a tree of the dunes

A nation-wide campaign to save the ghaf tree was conducted through 2007 to raise awareness about a valuable resource of the desert. The ghaf is in danger of succumbing to the threats posed by water loss, unfettered developmental activity across the country and, most importantly, human ignorance about the ecological-sociocultural values of this tree. Conserving Marine biodiversity in the Arabian Gulf

The Arabian Gulf provides habitat to five species of sea turtles (out of a global total of 7) and coral reefs that surround major islands and offshore banks.

The Marine Conservation Forum brought together some 100 delegates from the region to share knowledge about marine biodiversity, specifically turtles and coral reefs; and to identify and discuss common threats.

Conservation-based solutions were defined and opportunities for future collaboration sought. Read more...
