EWS-WWF Announces its ‘Year of Giving’ Strategy to Promote Partnerships Via Environment-based Programmes
- The EWS Corporate Membership Programmes provide the private sector with an opportunity to demonstrate their corporate commitment to the UAE vision and its sustainability goals
- The environment-based partnership initiatives are lined up under the three main pillars of the ‘Year of Giving’: Corporate Social Responsibility, Volunteering, and Serving the Nation
- Partners also have the opportunity to support the Environment Endowment Fund in collaboration with the Mohammed Bin Rashid International Centre of Endowment Consultancy
- EWS-WWF is currently working with over 140 public and private entities in the UAE and Gulf region to conserve biodiversity and tackle climate change
Through the ‘Give2UAE’ plan, supporters of the environment will work with EWS-WWF to conserve the country’s local heritage in the spirit of the Year of Giving, and support the growth of the Environment Endowment fund, in collaboration with the Mohammed Bin Rashid Global Centre for Endowment Consultancy (MBRGCEC). All private sector partners that meet a set of criteria, and are willing to support environment programmes sustainably, are eligible for the ‘Dubai Endowment Sign’ in coordination with the MBRGCEC. This sign demonstrates an organisation’s contribution to the vision of the country and gives privilege for the private sector in procurement with the Government of Dubai as per the directives of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai.
Laila Abdullatif, EWS-WWF Deputy Director General said: “At EWS-WWF, we believe that collaboration between government, private organisations and civil society is at the very heart of creating a more sustainable future for all generations. Through forward-thinking initiatives such as the Year of Giving, the UAE has created a platform to further push this collaboration and capitalise on the powerful impact communities can have on societies, and our environment.”
Abdullatif added: “With our Give2UAE plan, we’re enabling the public and private sectors to further integrate corporate social responsibility across their business streams through a range of engaging opportunities to facilitate volunteering programmes, connecting participants to nature, and serving their nation to create a lasting legacy for the prosperity and betterment of the UAE and its people. We look forward to working with current and prospective partners as we contribute to the UAE’s vision of a thriving green economy driving sustainable development.”
Through the first pillar, Corporate Social Responsibility, EWS offers private organisations the opportunity to join any of its Corporate Membership Programmes designed to facilitate the implementation of country-wide conservation projects and the preservation of the natural environment while helping to ensure a sustainable way of life for future generations. Accordingly, these membership programmes are an innovative way for the private sector to demonstrate their corporate commitment to the UAE vision and long-term sustainability goals. The second pillar, Volunteering, offers government entities, as well as the private sector, the opportunity to sign up to the ‘Citizen Scientists’ Programme to participate in field research and environmental studies. Volunteers can also support ocean fieldwork working with marine habitats. Alternatively, people can volunteer through a skill-based employee programme across areas such as administration, graphic design and accounting, among other specialities. The third strategy pillar, Serving the Nation, works towards ensuring a happier and healthier population through enriching nature experiences across mountains and marine sites. Additional educational opportunities will be made available, enabling partners’ employees to learn more about the impacts of climate change in the UAE and to volunteer as ambassadors to raise awareness about the cause.
Today, EWS-WWF is working with over 140 public and private entities in the UAE and Gulf region to conserve biodiversity and tackle climate change through education, awareness, policy and science based conservation initiatives.
EWS-WWF encourages all organisations interested in conserving the natural environment and working toward a sustainable future for the UAE, during the Year of Giving and beyond, to reach out to EWS-WWF via its social media channels and website. EWS-WWF welcomes its current partners and volunteers to also discuss their involvement and positive experiences with EWS-WWF programmes on social media with the hashtags #Give2UAE and #YearofGiving.
