"As a bank with over 125 million customers around the world, we operate globally but look for opportunities to give back to our local communities; this is also an essential part of developing a sustainable business. We know that our shareholders, customers and employees consider these issues to be important – by joining forces with EWS-WWF we are able to work together on promising opportunities for conservation work such as the Wadi Wurayah in Fujairah. We hope our joined up efforts will help educate people to take more responsibility for our communities, and the country we live in".

The hyper market Géant and the super market Le Marché has supported EWS-WWF since March 2008 through their no Plastic Programme. Gabriel de Andrade, Regional Head of Géant/Le Marché, said: "With the no plastic programme, we have basically cut our plastic consumption by 50%" It is a long-term process of changing lifestyle habits and we are aiming to reduce the number even further. It's great to see that the funds from the plastic bags are being used for environmental education of UAE children. Environmental education at a young age is vital, as it's an imperative to inform the next generation about environmental issues in order for them to take action.
