Background
Emirates Wildlife Society (EWS) is a UAE environmental non-governmental organisation, established under the patronage of HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Emir’s representative in the Western Region and Chairman of Environmental Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD).
 
EWS works in association with WWF, one of the world’s largest and most respected independent conservation organisation. EWS-WWF has been active in the UAE since 2001, has successfully initiated, and implemented several conservation and education projects and initiatives in the region.
 
EWS-WWF works federally and in the region with offices in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and Fujairah and is governed by a local board of directors.
 
Job summary
The Development Director (DD) is solely accountable for driving the financial growth of EWS-WWF as per the requirements of the Strategic plan and the achievement of targeted income/fund raising.  Essentially, the role holder interprets and converts organisational strategies into fundable proposals and implements fundraising programme plans in line with organisational financial requirements.  
The DD motivates, develops, and empowers a team of dynamic professionals to help implement the fundraising strategy and achieve results.  
Effective collaboration with unit directors, programme leaders, and project managers will be critical to the role as well as successful interface with sponsors, external service providers and other stakeholders.  The role has significant management content in terms of approving/recommending organisation decisions and people management.
The role holder is a member of the EWS-WWF Management Team (MT) and as such responsible for the overall direction of EWS-WWF. Members perform their responsibilities through regular meetings and related tasks.
Key Responsibilities Key performance Indicators
Planning
  • Adapting good practice fundraising principles and practices to the local environment, the DD develops, defines, and seek agreement and cascade down the objectives, plans, and targets for fundraising programs for detailed development of budget, program me plans, and support.
  • Develop and implement programme and project conservation funding through the fundraising team.
  • Co-creates project and annual work plans with the conservation and communication team in line with given deadlines.

Organisation Strategy Input
  • Provide and advise the organisation on global and local market trends and the fundraising programme’s responses as an active input to fundraising and strategy development.
  • Keeping in mind the EWS-WWF mission, ensure we stay relevant in today’s fast changing world and environment.  
  • Targets
  • Input on monthly budget meetings
  • Weekly MT update on fundraising targets and strategies
Unit Performance
  • Ensure unit plans/objectives and targets are met or exceeded to contribute to the planned units’ results.
  • Put in place stringent Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) framework to monitor progress and evaluate changes that need to be made effectively.
  • Turn data into impact by setting up and ensure the effective use of our CRM system (Salesforce) to analyse and optimize our efforts, keep track of partnerships and opportunities.
  • Manage the fundraising team and be responsible for their performance, development, and adherence to EWS-WWF values.
 
  • Monitoring and Evaluation framework in place

Organisation Development / Marketing Plan
  • Develop and lead the implementation of activities and strategies designed to spread the message of the organisation and to solicit donations.
  • Develop and implement successful marketing plans and campaign for conservation and fundraising programmes.  
  • Marketing plan developed in coordination with communications team and implemented effectively to achieve set targets.
Supporter Relationships / Service
  • Build critical supporter/partner relationships and implement supporter/partner service policies and standards consistently to sustain and enhance supporter/partner satisfaction and retention.

Risk Management
  • Identify, evaluate, and mitigate all risks involved within the policy framework to optimize risk-reward outcomes while embracing EWS-WWF values.
  • Risk strategy developed for BD unit and sponsor due diligence process developed.
Compliance and Control
  • Ensure compliance with the relevant policies, procedures, and regulations to protect the organisation’s interests in line with WWF guidelines and local practices.
  • Embrace EWS-WWF values in all aspects of his/her role
  • Be fully familiar with and adhere to WWF guidelines and principles.
Interface Management
  • Identify, influence, obtain, and manage internal support services to support the achievement of organisational objectives.
  • BD plans reviewed by all units prior to final approval.
  • Fundraising strategies developed and implemented in coordination with project teams

Resource Management
  • Lead, manage, motivate, and build capacity to develop a team of effective fundraisers to ensure desired levels of productivity and competency towards fundraising programmes.
  • Develop and implement systems to organise and keep track of fundraising opportunities 
  • Support team in building fundraising pipeline and ensure adaptability to yield high level results that support sponsor needs but do not jeopardize organisational values
  • Participating and speaking at key networking events and media opportunities to represent the organisation
  • Establish and leverage partnerships for fund raising opportunities.
  • Identify potential opportunities to strategic fundraising partnerships to enable new channels associated with major donors and individual fundraising
  • Keep abreast of current and future opportunities for the fundraising of the organisation and test and monitor new ideas and fundraising initiatives that are creative and aligned with the country’s development (e.g. 2017 is the Year of Giving).
  • Manage sponsor relationships and monitor engagement with sponsors and potential sponsors.
  • Ensure BD team are effectively working with all units on the delivery of sponsor benefits

To perform the job duties of Development Director the ideal candidate must possess the following:
